The
Colleagues Teachers
Professional growth is a primary goal of PACES.
Collegiality among teachers, school support/resource personnel,
administrators, and others is integral to the success of the PACES
Professional Growth Process. Members
of the PGT should be classroom teachers but may include instructional support
personnel (i.e., counselor, media specialist).
Members of the PGT for:
13.
instructional
personnel should be classroom teachers but may include school support/resource
personnel (i.e., counselor, media specialist).
14.
school
support/resource personnel should be personnel in the same job classification
but may include instructional personnel.
Colleagues Teachers work cooperatively with
teachers as members of a Professional
Growth Team. The district is
committed to providing the time and professional preparation necessary to assure
that Colleagues Teachers participate effectively in the PACES
Professional Growth Process.
Colleagues Teachers participate in classroom
observations observations of teaching and learning or in observations of
activities by school support/resource personnel and provide appropriate
feedback to Annual Contract (AC) teachers employees to assist them
in professional growth experiences. The
Professional Growth Team may be established to support and assist Professional
Service Contract (PSC) and Continuing Contract (CC) teachers employees
to meet required standards.
The
role of Colleagues Teachers in the PACES
Professional Growth Process is strictly supportive.
Although Colleagues Teachers have an important role in
professional growth and the enhancement of teaching and learning, they
do not contribute to or determine the annual evaluation decision which is the
responsibility of the school principal or supervising administrator of non
school-based personnel.
·
Colleagues
Teachers must have a CC or PSC or be certified by the National Board of
Professional Teaching Standards and must currently meet all M-DCPS annual
evaluation standards.
·
Teachers
Employees
who accept Colleague Teacher designation must complete the PACES
professional development program.
·
Colleagues
Teachers may include
PACES-related professional growth activities
in their own Professional Development Plan (PDP) which is required by Florida
law or Professional Growth Plan (PGP).
· All participants in the professional growth process are eligible for Master Plan Points towards certificate renewal.
·
In selecting
Colleagues Teachers for a PGT, consideration should be given to
factors such as knowledge of subject matter and grade level, so
that a reasonable match is made between the Colleagues Teachers
and the teacher employee
participating in the process.
Teachers take an active role in
using information from the PACES Professional Growth Process to assist teachers
employees in continuing professional development in the interest of
improving teaching and learning.
