Creating an environment conducive to learning is an important dimension of building a classroom culture that enhances learning. The total classroom learning environment encompasses psychological, interpersonal, and physical elements. Elements of the learning environment include individual and collective perspectives of the teachers and learners. Thus, each learner's perceptions of characteristics of the classroom learning environment are important concerns. In a supportive learning environment, learners and the teacher are treated fairly, with courtesy, and respect and enjoy a relaxed and accepting atmosphere. The teacher is warm and friendly toward learners and models enthusiasm for teaching, learning and and the subject being taught. Motivation for learning is evident throughout the lesson and praise is specific to learners and to learning tasks. Personalizing the lesson for learners and encouraging all learners to participate enhance learner involvement in, and self-efficacy for learning. A neat, safe and orderly classroom environment facilitates effective teaching and learning.
